Introduction

History

The PhD program of the Graduate School of Clinical Medicine at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University was established in March 1986, and the Master’s program was launched in 2000 for in-service training. The first director was Professor Bi-Ning Jiang, followed by Professors Chia-Li Yu, Shing-Jong Lin, Jaw-Ching Wu, Shie-Liang Hsieh, Teh-Ying Chou, and Chin-Tien Wang. The current director is Professor Shi-Pin Chen.

Originally, the Institute was designed to provide clinicians with opportunities for advanced study and research. In response to evolving needs and to provide additional opportunities for students from non-physician backgrounds, the PhD program began admitting non-physician students in the 2004 academic year.

In August 2008 (the first semester of the 2008 academic year), the former Institute of Tropical Medicine at Yang Ming University was merged into the Institute as part of an organizational restructuring to facilitate the sharing of faculty and resources. As a result, in addition to the existing in-service Master’s courses, the Institute began offering general Master’s degree courses starting from the first semester of the 2008 academic year.
