RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Inflammation: The Secret Killer.
Inflammation is the body’s attempt at self-protection; the aim being to remove harmful stimuli, including damaged cells, irritants, or pathogens – and begin the healing process. When something harmful or irritating affects a part of our body, there is a biological response to try to remove it, the signs and symptoms of inflammation show that the body is trying to heal itself.

We have research interests in the “inflammatory disease” derived from that host interplays with either pathogen (infectious disease) or sterile activator including self (host) and environment-derived molecules. How does the host raise the immune reaction appropriately and how does the immune activation subside? This is a key issue leading to disease occurrence, such as infectious disease, autoimmune disease and several inflammatory diseases. In the molecular level, members of Syk coupled C-type lectin receptors (Syk-CLRs) and the member of NOD-like receptors (NLRs) expressed by innate immune cells modulate the immune signaling and functions. In the cellular level, macrophage, dendritic cell and neutrophil initiate the inflammatory reaction and orchestrate the following immune response. I have interests in investigating the potential therapeutic candidate/strategy to alleviate tissue damage derived from those inflammatory diseases conducted by immune cells and its specific innate immune receptors. These researches will bring the new insight in the treatment of inflammatory disease.

“發炎”目前已公認為一切疾病的元兇,時代雜誌更是以此為封面標題,闡明發炎與各種疾病的連結。我們的研究工作探討發炎疾病的起始包含:宿主與病原菌(病毒及細菌)或是自身環境因子引起之刺激物之間的交互作用。透過免疫細胞分析平台及免疫細胞受體分析,探討免疫細胞在發炎疾病扮演的角色。尋找因過度發炎反應造成組織器官受損的可能治療標的。
