Clinical, imaging and molecular biology studies of thunderclap headache and reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS).

RCVS is one of the most serious and dangerous complex neurovascular diseases. Its main clinical manifestations are recurrent explosive headaches (thunderclap headaches) combined with vasoconstriction. These severe headaches cause patients to suffer from severe disorientation, repeated visits to the emergency room, and fear of engaging in activities of daily living, which is disruptive to the patient’s life, and patients are at high risk of complications such as ischemic stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, and posterior leukoaraiosis. Complications. Currently, the team is working on the development of new diagnostic imaging tools and in-depth investigation of the pathophysiological mechanisms of migraine.

Biomarkers, animal models, brain connectome and genomics of migraine pathophysiology.

Migraine is the neurological disease that causes the largest burden of disease and the second highest number of years of disability among all chronic diseases in the world, causing a huge impact on the socio-economic and healthcare systems. However, its pathophysiological mechanisms have not yet been elucidated, and treatment options are limited. The main achievements of the team are to establish a migraine animal model to explore the pathophysiological mechanisms of migraine, to promote the understanding of new pathophysiological mechanisms of migraine and to develop new therapeutic targets, and the results have been published in journals such as Brain, Pain, JCBFM, etc. The team has also published Taiwan’s first and most comprehensive study on the pathophysiology of migraine. Also published Taiwan’s first and Asia’s only migraine genome-wide association study to find the unique genes of migraine in Taiwanese people, providing an important direction for future pathophysiological mechanism research. Currently, we are continuing to develop new animal models of migraine through clinical and basic research, and to explore the interaction between the migraine genome and brain connectivity, in the hope of providing new diagnostic or therapeutic opportunities for the disease in the future, and thus reducing the burden on patients and the healthcare system.

Pathophysiological mechanisms of autoimmune encephalitis

Autoimmune encephalitis is an emerging disease in neurology, with various clinical manifestations such as epilepsy, altered cognitive function, psychiatric symptoms, and even loss of consciousness or death, which has a great impact on patients and their families. The team is currently working on establishing an animal model to further explore its pathophysiological mechanisms, with the hope of finding new therapeutic targets in the future.
